Welcome To Bristol!

If you’ve never been to Bristol before, you’re in for a great time. Situated as it is on the border with Wales, it puts you in a great spot for visiting some of the delights that both England and Wales have to offer.

Situated by the River Avon, you can enjoy a spot of boating when the weather is nice. What better way to see part of the city itself than by drifting past on a narrow boat?

But if that doesn’t take your fancy, there is plenty more to do in this amazing city.

The sights of Bristol

If you want to find out more about Bristol and its history through the years, there is no better place to find things out than by going to some of its museums.

Going back in time is perfectly possible if you visit the Blaise Castle House Museum. Situated in Henbury, this stunning property takes you back to the latter part of the 18th century.

The City Museum and Art Gallery makes for another wonderful day out. As well as housing items such as fine Bristol ceramics, it also takes you around the world and through history. It is quite simply one of the best museums in Bristol.

But there are plenty of other distinctive sights that you’ll spot around the city too. Take the Cabot Tower, for example. Cream stone from nearby Bath is one of the materials used to make the Tower, and you can climb the 105 feet to the top to appreciate a unique view of some of the other sights of Bristol.

Of course, Bristol has its own collection of famous names associated with the city, and one of the most famous is probably John Wesley. He founded the Methodist movement and you can see the New Room that he built in Bristol almost three hundred years ago.

Things to do in Bristol

If you want to shop all day, you’ve certainly come to the right place! Bristol is packed with all kinds of shops for all kinds of budgets. The newest offering is Cabot Circus, situated on three floors and boasting all kinds of shops, restaurants and outlets for all kinds of tastes and desires.

But if that all seems too much for you, why not head to the park to enjoy the quieter side of Bristol? You can enjoy Brandon Hill (where you will find the aforementioned Cabot Tower), and it is also very child friendly, with a dedicated play area for them to enjoy.

And of course you aren’t far away from the Downs. These are nestled next to the city, giving you a wonderful chance to get away from it all, but still be close to everything there is to see and do.

And if you have the stomach for it, why not see Bristol in the best possible way – from a hot air balloon? The area is well known for this type of transport, and it won’t make you look at the city in the same way again!

Perfect for families

Of course, if you have children to consider you will want to find things for them to do as well. And what better place is there to go to than the Bristol Zoo Gardens?

You can even arrange a birthday party for them at the Zoo if their special day is coming up. But no matter when you decide to go, you’ll find the array of seals, penguins, gorillas and other animals ready and waiting to entertain and amaze you.

In conclusion

Bristol is clearly a city that is geared up to please everyone. Whether you are after a quiet evening relaxing in front of the big screen, watching one of the latest movies, or you want to try your hand at something different such as glass blowing, you can do it in Bristol.

The best way to enjoy the city is to make sure you grab a map as soon as you arrive. The local Tourist Information point will be able to tell you the best places to go, as well as how to get there. A little preparation will ensure that you don’t miss out on any of the best events, venues and sights to be appreciated.

So where will you start? Do the steam trains of the Avon Railway appeal to you? Maybe you would like to pay a visit to the Cathedral? No matter what you pick, one thing is for certain – you won’t be bored.
