If you have been keeping on top of the news of late you will probably know that Bristol Airport is developing expansion plans that are hopefully going to be approved in due time. But while the opposition to and support of the plans is split down the middle, only certain parts of the plans are being focused on for the most part.
One of the elements to the plans which does not get many column inches in the papers is the parking. Bristol Airport has plentiful parking already of course, but if the airport is going to be expanded it will need more parking to be able to cater for the increased number of passengers that will go through the airport.
There are countless different parking options available at Bristol Airport at the moment. There is no reason to suggest that this will not still be the case if the new plans eventually come to fruition. But plenty of new car parking spaces will join the thousands already there, and it will be interesting to see how they are split between long and short term parking options. And since other companies run many of the car parks available at or near Bristol Airport, will this trend continue with the new space that would be available?
It would also be interesting to see how the charges for the airport parking would vary. At the moment Bristol Airport has one of the highest rates for parking of all the airports around the UK. With that said though the charges do vary and if you book ahead of time instead of turning up on the day you can save an incredible amount on your airport parking.
At present it is impossible to tell whether the new expansion plans will go ahead or not. And indeed it could be many more months before we get a final decision on what will happen. But if the airport does expand we can look forward to more parking spaces and parking facilities to take advantage of when we travel out of this airport. The question remains whether they will be undercover, in the airport grounds or outside of them, and how much will be split between long and short stay options.
We’ll be watching to see what happens next, and we will report back when the final decision is made.
