Every airport needs good transport links to help it welcome new passengers and make it easy for them to reach the airport whenever they need to.
But apparently Bristol Airport is falling woefully short of many other airports across the country in this respect. In the current situation a lot of passengers who drive to the airport have to go through a series of small villages. Needless to say this isn’t good for the people who live there, but it is hardly practical for those who need to travel to the airport quickly and efficiently either.
It is well known that Bristol Airport is under consideration for extensive rebuilding plans in the near future. But many people are concerned that the airport cannot cope with travel plans at the moment, let alone in the future when the new developments get underway. People need a variety of ways to easily reach Bristol Airport and if they don’t have them it doesn’t matter how good the services at the actual airport itself are. They won’t be prepared to reach them.
Dr Liam Fox has already raised his concerns over the travel situation. The current issues surrounding travel plans are worrying enough. But as he says the prospective increase in the number of people using the airport could go up by as much as four million passengers – from a total of six million at the moment. He is adamant that the current problems will worsen and there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of development to allow for all those additional passengers.
A report on January 22nd gave details of the new bendy buses that will serve the town centre. There was plenty of information about the millions of pounds that were going to be sunk into the project. But there was no information on whether the route would be serving the airport – so it is fair to say it probably won’t be.
With investments like this taking place it seems hard to imagine how the airport will cope if the existing transport infrastructure isn’t improved in line with the airport itself. We must simply keep an eye on the latest developments to ensure that we don’t miss any important news stories. Hopefully the powers that be will see that Bristol Airport is in dire need of better transport links – and they will happen soon.
